New shuttle for the Antwerp region
DB Cargo is launching a new corridor product called DBantwerp-rhine-shuttle in early 2017.
DB Cargo is launching a fast, direct corridor product between Belgium and Germany in early 2017. The shuttle for conventional and intermodal rail transport operations connects the Belgian industrial region of Antwerp with the Ruhr area and the Rhine/Neckar region – and from there with the whole of Europe.
“With the DBantwerp-rhine-shuttle we’ll be serving the Antwerp–Ruhr–Mannheim corridor,” explains Dr Jürgen Wilder, CEO of DB Cargo. “It allows us to connect the major industrial centres of Antwerp and Rhine/Ruhr and Rhine/Neckar, and to provide fast links to DB Cargo’s European network, mainly to southern Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Spain and south-eastern Europe. This way, we are accommodating customers in several different industrial sectors, for whom such a corridor product is much in demand.”
The DBantwerp-rhine-shuttle will operate daily and will offer capacities for both wagonload transport and for combined transport, which we provide in cooperation with our partners. The special advantages of this product are short transport times, high quality standards and great flexibility due to the daily departures. The shuttle also offers – as do all DB Cargo products – the advantage of low-emissions transport operations that are significantly more environmentally friendly than HGV. Sustainable supply chains are playing an increasingly important role for more and more customers in industry.
Through its shuttle products, DB Cargo is already providing links for customers between Europe’s most important industrial centres. The DBantwerp-rhine-shuttle therefore fits in perfectly with DB Cargo’s strategy of developing an efficient network as a basis for a high-performance European rail freight company. DB Cargo is continuously expanding the network in exactly the areas of greatest customer demand.
