Nanouke van 't Riet speaks at 15th Scheldt conference

Nanouke van 't Riet, CEO/COO of DB Cargo Nederland, will speak on the year of the rail on 7 October at the Scheldt conference in Antwerp. The cross-border port conference with a lot of attention for developments in the ports and industry in Antwerp, Ghent, Terneuzen and Vlissingen.

In her contribution, she will discuss, among other things, DB Cargo's ambition to lead the way in Europe and in the Netherlands in making transport more sustainable and thus reducing CO2 emissions. Because this time calls for the train.

DB Cargo has a long tradition in Zeeland. It has its own depots with locomotives and employees in both Vlissingen and Zeeuw Vlaanderen.

The Dutch Scheldt ports are important to DB Cargo and have shown steady growth for some time. An important impulse for transport to and from Vlissingen was the opening of a new direct freight connection in 2008, which is also electrified.

As far as DB Cargo is concerned, Zeeuws Vlaanderen can also use such an impulse. The single-track section is not electrified and the maximum speed is limited. Even more important is the vulnerability of the railway bridge over the busy Ghent – Terneuzen canal. A major wish of DB Cargo is therefore a direct railway link from Flanders to the Axelse Vlakte.
