The Chemelot fire brigade recently took part in an instruction provided by our colleague Wiel Vrolings on the use of rail tank cars for the transport of hazardous substances. Due to all the restrictions as a result of the corona pandemic, it was the first time in a long time that Vrolings was able to provide practical instruction again.

From the end of April, DB Cargo will be transporting special pipes from Austria to Moerdijk twice a week for a year and a half. The pipes are intended for district heating. DB Cargo recently transported a batch of 5 cm heavy plates. thick from the Danish Frederiksveark to the Waalhaven in Rotterdam. From there the party of 300 tons made the crossing to Ireland. The party was part of DB Cargo's international single wagonload network and needed four days from factory to quay.

Through this initiative, we, as a sector, will be united in our efforts to achieve sustainable, competitive and reliable freight transport. With transparent, future-oriented stories, we want to inform and inspire everyone involved with rail freight transport about the challenges that lie ahead and how we will tackle them. DB Cargo works closely together with customers who offer transport to and from the United Kingdom. DB Cargo (UK) transports a substantial part of the cargo through the Channel Tunnel. Most customs obligations and procedures have now been implemented for this. DB Cargo, with its many years of experience in rail transport to and from the United Kingdom, has listed the latest state of affairs regarding Brexit for its relations.

In brief: • From 24 June 2023 to the end of December 2024, Kijfhoek can only be used to a limited extent due to renovation work • DB Cargo has taken measures to limit impact to shippers • Operating times of terminals and sidings in the Netherlands will remain unchanged as much as possible

In the period from March 31 to May 26, extensive work will take place on the Emmerich – Oberhausen route. The work consists of a total closure of the track section, alternating with train traffic on one track. The work is part of the construction of the so-called 'third track' in Germany. A planning overview of the work can be viewed here . During this period, train traffic to and from Germany partly uses other border crossings. Departure and arrival times may change as a result.

DB Cargo will adjust its services in the Netherlands due to the expected very limited transport demand during the December holidays.

This autumn, work is planned at various locations that will affect DB Cargo's train traffic. In many cases, the work leads to the diversion of trains, which means that arrival and departure times can change. In some cases there are also operational restrictions for the diversion routes and in some cases no train traffic at all is possible due to the lack of alternative routes. DB Cargo has compiled an overview of the most important activities this autumn.

Due to the expected limited transport demand, international wagonload traffic to and from the Netherlands will have an adjusted timetable in the period from Wednesday 25 May to Sunday 29 May and from Friday 3 June to Monday 6 June.

On April 8, 2022, work will start in Germany on the 'straight Rheinstrecke' between Cologne and Koblenz. These partly consist of a total closure of the track section, alternating with train traffic over one track. The work is planned until April 15. Due to planned works, no train traffic will be possible via the border crossing Emmerich (D) in the period from 4 March to 21 March 2022. Train traffic to and from Germany will be diverted through other border crossings during this period.

DB Cargo will adjust its services in the Netherlands in December due to the limited transport demand during the holidays. Christmas 2021 From Friday December 24 (10 p.m.) to Monday December 27 (10 p.m.) DB Cargo will not operate terminals and sidings in the Netherlands. New Year 2022 From Friday 31 December (8 p.m.) to Sunday 2 January (7 a.m.) DB Cargo will not operate terminals and sidings in the Netherlands. Adjustments in the single wagon load network Due to the expected limited transport demand, the international single wagon load traffic to and from the Netherlands will have an adjusted timetable in the period from Thursday 23 December to Monday 3 January.
