Article: Many detour in April due to work on third track
There will be many detour in April due to work on the third track between Emmerich and Oberhausen. The main focus of the detour falls in the period from April 20 to May 17, 2026 when the section is not available for train service. In the period prior to the double-track decommissioning, DB Cargo is already diverting many trains via Venlo and, to a lesser extent, Bad Bentheim.
The double-track decommissioning from April 20 to May 17, 2026 also marks the conclusion of what has become known as "the 80-week period. The 80-week began on November 1, 2024. That is when DB InfraGO started work on the construction of a third track between Emmerich and Oberhausen, which means that the Betuwe Route cannot be used at all for 20 weeks. In the remaining 60 weeks, freight - as well as passenger transport can only use one track.
