Ministry makes 30 million euros available for Kijfhoek

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management is providing 30 million euros for the preservation of wagonload transport at the Kijfhoek marshalling yard. This amount is intended to make wagonload transport future-proof.

This amount comes from the Impulse Program for Goods Transport (IPG) and should provide a renewed perspective for this important link in Dutch rail freight transport.

Shortly after Budget Day, the Lower House was informed about the Impulse Program for Goods Transport. This program aims to make better use of the existing infrastructure, combat disruptions in freight transport and prevent traffic jams. In addition, companies are encouraged to shift freight transport from road to water and rail.

A total of 79 million euros is available for this program. The State Secretary has now decided to reserve an amount of 30 million euros of this for Kijfhoek.

The House was informed earlier about the problems surrounding wagonload transport and the sorting hill at Kijfhoek, near Zwijndrecht, which plays a central role in this. Wagonload transport is also important for Dutch shippers, but is under pressure and there are concerns about the future. Wagonload transport was in danger of disappearing from the Netherlands.
