Article: How it works
The Chemelot fire brigade recently took part in an instruction provided by our colleague Wiel Vrolings on the use of rail tank cars for the transport of hazardous substances. Due to all the restrictions as a result of the corona pandemic, it was the first time in a long time that Vrolings was able to provide practical instruction again.
Vrolings: 'With the help of the demo car, I try to make clear what people should pay attention to when loading and unloading tank wagons. What dangers are lurking and how to act in the event of malfunctions. And perhaps more importantly, what one should definitely not do. In short: how it works.
DB Cargo has its own demonstration rail tank car equipped with the most common valves. The tank wagon is ideally suited for instruction of employees of tank storage companies and the chemical industry involved in the loading or unloading of tank wagons. But also for the transfer of knowledge to emergency organizations such as a company fire brigade.
DB Cargo considers it part of its chain responsibility to share knowledge and, for example, to help prevent loss of containment, through the correct use of valves.
